Planner
What is Planner?
Microsoft Planner is a technology which enables you to structure and monitor tasks for yourself or a team. The tasks can be defined, split up into smaller parts, commentated on, and be marked as in progress or finished. This makes Microsoft Planner incredibly useful when organizing your project or task portfolio.
Pedagogical advantages
Planner is useful when wishing to organize a project, or other processes, that is comprised of multiple different tasks. In Planner, different tasks can be assigned to different members of the group, so it is apparent who is in charge of a given task. Then the task can be further divided into sub-tasks, receive comments and marked as complete, when finished. By doing this, the group is able to create a bird's eye view of the process, and thereby notice if certain areas of the project are in need of extra attention.
Planner can be divided into different columns. These columns could be assigned to individual group members or be used to split the project into different phases of the process.
Planner can be used as a group’s working manual for a project, or another work task that is to be solved in a group. If the group, at some point, runs into problems or disputes about the work method or tasks that were agreed upon, Planner can be revisited to clear up these disputes. It can also be changed as the project runs on, if the group finds that some of their agreements should be updated, moderated or deleted.
An example of how you could use Planner as an educator could be to organize your curriculum plan. Planner can be accessed from most devices, and therefore it is easy to add, change, update or delete tasks, even if you are on the go. Planner can also be used in a supervision setting, where you can either be granted access to the students Planner, to gain insight into their plans for the project, with permission from the student or students of course. You can also share your own planner with the students to organize your supervision meetings.
