On this page you can read more about how you can get started using interactive blackboards in your teaching.

The inclusion of interactive digital blackboards is a digital study activity, that makes the teaching of your students more engaging. The usage of interactive blackboards in study activities can provide the students with the opportunity to express their worries or doubts in relation to teaching in class, and the at home preparation. Interactive blackboards also provide the opportunity to activate the students who might not always be participating actively in class when doing groupwork or being physically present.

By using the interactive blackboards, you can create an atmosphere where reflection and dialogue concerning group work and exercises is welcomed and encouraged. There is also the opportunity for the students to answer questions and they can provide input about the teaching material they find hard to understand and that you might need to repeat in a future class.

How to get started

Think about what your ideal goal is. What does it look like? And what you need it for.
Decide on the proper Learning Technology. In CDUL our experience is that educators use MS Whiteboard in the majority of learning situations.
Make sure that you students have access to the Learning Technology that you choose to use.
Formulate your task clearly. It might be helpful to provide an example. If the work with interactive digital blackboards happens asynchronously, it might be helpful to make a screencast that explains the task and how the students are expected to solve it.

Pedagogical considerations

Consider when and why the activity is introduced in relation to how it furthers the students' academic progression and study activity.
Decide what the purpose of the activity is. Are the students supposed to repeat or produce knowledge in relation to the course?
You should also consider whether the activity is in preparation for the class, happens during the class or it is used after the class. It is of course possible to combine all three, but you should have decided to do so beforehand.
